Q: What does Imation Media Performance Manager do?
Imation Media Performance Manager is a powerful client/server software product that provides enterprise data center users the capability to manage tape volume and drive error performance from their desktops in real time, which encourages the user to take action as errors occur, before a situation can become critical. Imation Media Performance Manager also collects and summarizes tape volume and drive error performance over time, providing users the means to monitor and analyze historical trends and variations in library performance. Imation Media Performance Manager consists of two components. The mainframe (server) component is a started task in the MVS/ESA operating environment that continuously collects tape volume and drive error performance data. The PC (client) component provides users with the capability to view, evaluate, and generate customized reports on tape volume and drive error performance data through a Microsoft Windows or IBM OS/2 PC graphical user interface (GUI). The software was developed utilizing an object-oriented approach, which provides users the flexibility to evaluate any parameter monitored by the software in any combination of ways and against thresholds that are determined by the data center or the industry.
